Sailing Word Definition
Dinghy A small sailboat, has a centerboard/daggerboard rather than a heavy keel.
Displacement A boats weight, or the weight of the water she displaces.
DNF Acronym for "Did Not Finish"; a boat that starts and fails to finish a race is scored DNF
DNS Acronym for "Did Not Start"; a boat entered in a race or series that failed to start the race is scored DNS
Dodger Canvas shelter that keeps spray any rain from going into the companionway, at least theoretically.
Dolly A device fir moving dinghies around the boatyard; a boat trailer for storage and launching of dinghies
Draught The measurement of how deep a boat rides in the water
DSQ Acronym for disqualified, a boat that fouls another without exonerating itself will be scored DSQ
