Swage Toggle |
Similar to a swage fork, but articulates in one direction. |
Tack |
(a) To turn the bow of a boat through the wind; an upwind change of direction that requires the sails to be eased and re sheeted on the opposite side of the boat. (b) the front bottom corner of a sail. |
Tackle |
Blocks and rope used to do a job. |
Tell-Tale |
Small strands of yarn attached to sails to give an indication of air flow along the sail. |
Tender |
A small boat aboard larger vessels, used for going ashore from being at anchor. |
Tiller |
The hanldle attached to the rudder; used to steer the boat. |
Tiller Extension |
A small pole attached to the tiller; used to facilitate steering from a hiked position. |
Toe Straps |
Another term for Hiking Straps |
Toe-Rail |
A metal or wooden rail along the edge of the deck to help prevent crew from slipping overboard. |
Trampoline |
A strong piece of mesh fabric laced between the hulls of a multihull boat. |
Transom |
The hull surface at the back of the boat |
Trapeze |
A wire used on dingies to hang one or more crew further outboard than would be possible with orinary hiking |
Trapeze Harness |
Worn by sailors to attach to the trapeze wire. |
Traveler |
A sliding track which allows the mainsheet to be sheeted from different positions; used to adjust the angle of the mainsail when sailing close hauled. |
Trim |
To adjust the sails. |
